Explanatory text: | This program runs as full-time course and takes duration of eighteen months.
The program is composed of course works, field thesis research and defending and filing the thesis research. Students are assessed at the end of each course by the use of examinations. Passing level and grading of the courses will generally follow the rules and regulations of the University for Postgraduate Studies. A minimum of “B” grade is required for each course the student is taking for completion of the program. During their thesis research work, the trainees are expected to conduct health research to address the major health problems and issues of their area. Progressive assessment is conducted to assess performance in their research work. Public defence of their theses in the presence of internal and external examiners is a requirement for graduation. Thesis defence will be graded as “Excellent”, “Very good”, “Good”, “Satisfactory” or “Fail”. A thesis that is considered “Fail” must be revised and re-defended. The re-defence will be done based on the recommendation of the thesis examining board. |

Explanatory text: | This program runs as full-time course and takes duration of three to five years. Lectures are delivered to students on-site and students are also expected to present PhD seminars.
a) Coursework: Candidates are expected to make up all courses and must pass the prescribed courses with a grade of B on the first attempt before appearing for the qualifying examination. b) Comprehensive qualifying examination: Candidates are required to pass a comprehensive examination within eighteen months after registration. The examination will be both written and oral and will cover all aspects of Medical Microbiology. A candidate who fails the comprehensive examination may reappear for the examination once within a maximum time of six months after which he/she must discontinue his/her studies if he/she fails again. c) Thesis work: A doctoral thesis shall constitute a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the PhD degree. The doctoral thesis shall constitute individual contribution to the advancement of knowledge and should be publicly defended. |

Academic Requirements: | The candidate must be a holder of a Master’s degree in Microbiology from a Medical or Veterinary school attached to a recognized University; or any holder of a Master’s degree in biological Sciences will be considered but he/she will be required to make up courses in Medical Microbiology which he/she lacks. Depending on the number of applicants, selection will be made based on work experience after obtaining an MSc degree in Medical Microbiology or related field |
